Living History Day—“By Her Hands: Women at Work in the 18th Century”

Living history day exploring 18th-century women's roles at Carmel Clay History Museum.

Step back in time at this interactive living history celebration! The Carmel Clay History Museum is hosting a special day where visitors meet costumed performers portraying women from the 1700s and learn about the work they did. You'll encounter a weaver, seamstress, tavern keeper or innkeeper, and an apothecary—all roles that real women held during Colonial times. It's a chance to ask questions, observe their crafts, and gain insight into daily life centuries ago. This program is part of a larger series commemorating America's 250th anniversary, created in partnership with the Daughters of the American Revolution. It's a great fit for families curious about history who want a hands-on, conversational experience rather than just reading about the past. Kids and adults alike will appreciate seeing how women contributed to their communities through skilled trades and business.
