Guided Nature Walks: Historic Hoosiers
Historic nature walks at Conner Prairie blend outdoor exploration with local history.
Join a guided walk that pairs Indiana history with outdoor exploration. Your guide will share stories about influential Hoosiers from the 1800s and 1900s who shaped the state through work in nature, science, art, botany, archaeology, and related fields. This one-hour outing covers less than a mile at a relaxed pace, making it accessible for families with mixed abilities and interests. Everyone—from history buffs to nature lovers—will find something to enjoy.
The walk starts near the Museum Experience Center and follows a mix of paved and crushed-gravel trails, mostly shaded and flat. You'll travel about a quarter-mile on a gentle paved hill, then settle into a wider paved trail before moving to a narrower woodland path. Benches dot the route if anyone needs a rest. This program runs rain or shine, so pack sunscreen, hats, and water as needed. Restrooms with accessible stalls are available at the starting point. The walk is free with general admission to Conner Prairie. If you have specific accessibility questions, contact the Nature Engagement Specialist at morton@connerprairie.org.
