Curious By Nature: What's Weather Got to Do with It?

Hands-on science homeschool class exploring weather and hot-air balloon flight.

Your child will explore the connection between weather and flight through hands-on science activities designed just for them. During this homeschool program, kids ages 7 and up will conduct experiments focused on weather patterns and the water cycle, then create a personal weather journal to track conditions at home. While there's no actual balloon flight, children will get to climb inside the gondola to learn about Sophie, Conner Prairie's hot air balloon, making this a unique behind-the-scenes experience. Sessions run from 10 a.m. to noon or 1 to 3 p.m., with tickets at $10 per child and one free adult admission (additional adults are $8). The program is held on Monday mornings when the prairie is closed to the general public, giving your group exclusive access to the grounds. Please note that younger siblings aren't able to attend due to the program's structure and safety considerations. Kids should dress for outdoor exploration and be prepared for active learning, as most activities involve walking. If your child needs accessibility support, reach out to Guest Relations at 317-776-6000 to discuss accommodations.
