Astronomy

Stargazing program at McCloud Nature Park—explore the night sky.

Bring your family for an evening of stargazing at McCloud Nature Park, where you'll escape city lights and discover thousands of stars overhead. This free program partners the Indiana Astronomical Society with Park Naturalists to share the night sky with both curious kids and adults. The evening begins indoors at the Nature Center with a 30-minute sky seminar where expert astronomers explain which planets and constellations will be visible that night—perfect for kids 8 and up. After the seminar, head outside for telescope viewing, with both large and small telescopes available for everyone to use. The whole experience lasts about two hours, and no registration is required. Keep in mind that while the seminar happens rain or shine, the outdoor viewing depends on clear skies—if severe weather is forecast, the viewing portion may be canceled. The park closes at 11 p.m. on astronomy nights, so plan accordingly. All ages are welcome to attend this completely free event.
