Astronomy

Free astronomy program at McCloud Nature Park.

Get away from city lights and discover the night sky at this free stargazing program hosted by the Indiana Astronomical Society and park naturalists. The evening begins indoors at the Nature Center with a 30-minute seminar where expert astronomers share what constellations and planets will be visible that night. This introductory session works best for children 8 and up, though all ages are welcome throughout the event. After the seminar, head outside for telescope viewing. Both large and small telescopes will be set up for families to use. The whole program runs about two hours total. Keep in mind that while the seminar happens rain or shine, outdoor viewing depends on clear skies—if bad weather or storm warnings are predicted, the viewing portion may be canceled. No registration is needed, and the park closes at 11 p.m. on astronomy nights, so plan accordingly.
