Escape the city's light pollution and discover thousands of stars twinkling overhead at this free summer stargazing program. The evening begins indoors at the Nature Center with a brief sky seminar—perfect for ages 8 and up—where expert astronomers explain which planets and constellations will be visible that night. These introductory talks last about 30 minutes and are designed for people new to astronomy. After the seminar, head outside for telescope viewing. The Indiana Astronomical Society and park naturalists set up both large and small telescopes for guests to use during the sky-viewing portion. The whole program runs approximately two hours. Keep in mind that seminars happen rain or shine, but outdoor viewing depends on clear skies—if poor weather or severe advisories are in effect, the viewing portion may be canceled. No registration is needed, and the program is welcome to all ages, though the park closes at 11 p.m. on astronomy nights.
